ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a hands-on Tech Lead to own the technical direction of a headless e-commerce platform – Next.js storefront, Magento 2 back end, Laravel internal systems, running on AWS for an established retail client in Australia.
You will lead a team of software engineers, drive architectural decisions, and work directly with the client’s Product and Engineering teams on a live, revenue-generating platform.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Own the solution architecture across the storefront (Next.js), commerce back end (Magento 2), CMS and internal systems (Laravel) on AWS
• Set engineering standards and quality gates; lead code reviews
• Plan and execute Magento, framework and dependency version upgrades
• Run technical debt audits and drive a prioritised improvement roadmap
• Optimise performance and caching strategy across the stack
• Diagnose complex production issues, lead root-cause analysis and deliver hotfixes and preventive fixes
• Work daily with the Project Manager and client stakeholders; contribute to monthly technical reports
WHAT YOU BRING
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years as a Tech Lead on real production systems
• Strong full-stack experience on headless e-commerce sites:
– Magento 2 (Open Source / Adobe Commerce) back end: custom modules, APIs, upgrades
– Next.js / React storefront
– PHP / Laravel
• AWS architecture experience, particularly Lambda, ECS and IAM
• Solid understanding of SSG, caching strategies and REST API design
• Proven track record supporting production systems: upgrades, performance tuning and incident management
• Excellent spoken and written English, comfortable communicating with Australian stakeholders every day
