1. Executive Summary

A global leader in marine shipping and pool management needed more than a development team. It needed a partner able to replace fragmented legacy tooling with a single operational backbone, without compromising the audit trail a regulated, safety-critical industry demands. Vinova built that backbone: a multi-module, enterprise-grade fleet operations platform, delivered over a three-year-plus hybrid engagement, spanning 30+ specialists across Singapore and Vietnam and 20+ modules across six operational domains. A mature Agile delivery model lifted development velocity by 60%, while the platform itself centralized fleet operations, fuel procurement, and regulatory vessel vetting under one roof.

2. Connected Problem, Solution & Impact

Challenge 1: Fragmented operations and multi-team collaboration friction

  • Pain point: Operating across global trade lanes, the client’s chartering, budgeting, and scheduling teams worked from siloed systems. Co-editing operational fixture boards across time zones produced data conflicts, concurrency delays, and administrative overhead that compounded with every new office added.
  • Solution: Vinova built a unified operations platform housing 20+ modules across six operational domains, engineering a custom real-time co-editing engine over .NET SignalR/WebSockets so fixture boards could be edited live, the way a shared spreadsheet works, but built for the concurrency demands of a 24-hour global operation.
  • Impact: Simultaneous multi-user editing with zero data latency, replacing scattered regional records with a single source of operational truth.

Challenge 2: Volatile fuel prices and opaque procurement

  • Pain point: Marine fuel is one of shipping’s largest operating costs, and the client had no real-time way to compare bunker prices across global ports before committing to a purchase.
  • Solution: Vinova delivered a dedicated fuel intelligence module in a five-month sprint, pairing live AIS vessel positioning with real-time fuel price benchmarks from international suppliers.
  • Impact: Fleet managers could compare live bunker prices across suppliers and adjust fueling strategy in real time, turning a fixed cost into a manageable one.

Challenge 3: High-stakes vessel vetting and maritime security compliance

  • Pain point: International maritime regulation leaves no margin for manual compliance tracking. The client needed 24/7 fleet visibility, incident management, and audit-ready reporting that could stand up to regulator and charterer scrutiny alike.
  • Solution: Vinova engineered integrated vessel monitoring and vetting modules combining interactive GIS mapping, speed and stoppage deviation alerts, distance calculators, and compliance dashboards, built with the same engineering discipline Vinova applies to government-grade systems.
  • Impact: Continuous risk oversight, faster compliance audit turnarounds, and reduced vessel downtime, giving both the client and its regulators a verifiable record rather than a manual one.

Challenge 4: Opaque earnings reporting for shipowners and pool participants

  • Pain point: Shipowners in the client’s pool arrangements had no direct visibility into daily vessel earnings, chartering trends, or distribution statements, and depended on manual, delayed reporting from the client’s own team.
  • Solution: Vinova built a dedicated shipowner mobile app (React Native) and web portal delivering daily earnings updates, market research reports, and automated financial statements.
  • Impact: Shipowners went from waiting on manual statements to checking live earnings themselves. That shift in transparency helped the platform mature to the point where the client spun off dedicated internal technical teams to manage ongoing operations, evidence of a platform built to be owned, not just delivered.

3. Technology Architecture & Stack

Every layer of the stack was chosen to support one constraint the client couldn’t compromise on: a 24/7 global operation with zero tolerance for data lag or downtime.

Layer Technology Why it matters here
Mobile React Native (iOS & Android) One codebase, so shipowners get the same real-time earnings data whether they’re at a desk or dockside
Frontend React.js Fast, responsive interfaces for teams making time-sensitive fixture and routing decisions
Backend .NET microservices Modular architecture that let 20+ operational modules ship and scale independently
Database & caching MySQL Reliable transactional integrity for financial and compliance records
Real-time engine .NET SignalR / WebSockets The backbone of live co-editing and live AIS tracking, zero-latency by design
Infrastructure AWS Scales with fleet size and trade-lane expansion without re-architecture

4. How Vinova Delivered

  • Agile ODC governance: A 30+ member squad, spanning Solution Architects, full-stack developers, QA, and DevOps, delivered through Vinova’s ISO 27001-certified hybrid delivery framework, the same discipline Vinova applies to regulated-sector engagements.
  • 60% velocity boost: Achieved through structured two-week sprints, CI/CD automation, and test-driven development, not by cutting corners on the audit trail the client’s industry demands.
  • Rapid milestone delivery: A full specialized module shipped in a five-month sprint, evidence that speed and compliance rigor aren’t a trade-off in Vinova’s delivery model.
